Healthy Eating

Chantal Staaf, Epicure, is speaking to Grade 3's tomorrow about healthy eating and will help the class make mini pizzas!  Chantal has requested to share this info with our school families;

Thank you St. Mary's for inviting me to talk to Grade 3 students to give them you a quick run down about how important food is in our everyday life.

Children aren’t what they eat but rather what WE feed them.
Our health is directly impacted by the foods we eat.
Approximately 80% of chronic disease can be prevented by what we choose to put in our bodies, the habits we determine, and amount of movement we opt to engage in.
While genetics determines 1/3 of our body weight; the other 2/3 is up to us.
We have the power to choose health.

My name is Chantal Staaf and I am a local Epicure consultant.  Those of you not familiar with Epicure we are a Canadian, women lead business from North Saanich, BC.  Our products are guaranteed gluten and nut free.  We offer a line of quality cookware as well as clean and flavourful spice blends.

Grade 3 children will be assembling pizzas as well as making dips to go with the vegetables.  We will be using the Good Italian Real Fast collection as a baseline.  Epicure offers a variety of meal sets.  Your children will be coming home with a dip sample.  This can be used as dip OR as a seasoning.  If you would like more information and you do not have a representative looking after your Epicure needs, please reach out to me.

Hello parents! The passes for Excel Martial Arts are starting to move. This is such a great fundraiser for our school and a great way for the kids to try out a new activity. Excel has also offered to extend the passes into March as well so if February is a bit busy for you, you can save it for March. Or use some of the classes in February and some in March. Here are the class times Excel has available to use with the pass:

Mondays at 3pm or 5pm
Tuesdays at 5pm
Wednesdays at 4pm or 6pm
Thursdays at 630pm
Fridays at 3pm
Saturdays at 10am
You can choose any two classes per week. The pass is $20 and gets you one month for free (8 classes) and a free t-shirt. Our school gets to keep 100% of the funds raised!

Please contact the school office if you would like a pass.
Rhodes Oakley
Rhodes is mad about hockey!  He went to his first hockey tournament when he was just 8 days old and he got his first pair of skates when he was 2 and wouldn't even take them off to go to sleep! Rhodes has been skating ever since and he started hockey with Chilliwack Minor Hockey Association this September! He wants to be just like his four older brothers, his Dad, and his Grandpa as they all play hockey too.
