Welcome to St. Mary’s School!

Established in 1948, St. Mary’s School is a vibrant Catholic independent school operating under the Catholic Independent Schools of the Vancouver Archdiocese. Rooted in faith and strengthened by community, our mission is to share the teachings of the Catholic Church, nurture a love of God, and support the growth of the whole child—spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally. Faith is at the heart of daily life at St. Mary’s. We pray together in our classrooms and as a school community, and gather regularly to celebrate Mass and grow together in faith.

St. Mary’s offers Kindergarten through Grade 7, along with on-site preschool programs for three- and four-year-olds. Our teachers follow the curriculum established by the B.C. Ministry of Education while providing students with a rich and engaging learning experience. We are extremely proud of the academic achievement of our students. In the Fraser Institute’s 2026 Report Card on British Columbia’s Elementary Schools, St. Mary’s was ranked the #1 elementary school in Chilliwack. This achievement reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the strong partnership we share with our families.

One of the highlights of St. Mary’s is our dynamic Fine Arts and Music program, led by our highly qualified Music specialist. With extensive musical expertise and experience teaching at the university level, she brings exceptional skill, energy, and creativity to music education at our school. Students experience music through singing, performance, rhythm, movement, and instrumental instruction, with opportunities to learn recorders, ukuleles, guitars, and other instruments as they progress through the grades. Our music program goes far beyond learning notes and songs—it gives students opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, collaboration, and a genuine love of making and performing music together. Students also receive instruction in French and Applied Design, Skills and Technologies, while Physical Education is taught by a specialist teacher. Our dedicated Learning Resource team works closely with students and teachers to support a wide range of learning needs.

Beyond the classroom, students in most grades have opportunities to participate in a variety of extracurricular sports, including Cross Country, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, and Track and Field. Our teams compete with other independent schools as well as select Chilliwack public schools, building teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence, and school spirit.

The Arts are woven into the faith and community life of St. Mary’s School. Student creativity is celebrated throughout our classrooms and hallways, and opportunities to create, perform, serve, and share are an important part of the student experience. Throughout the year, students are encouraged to use their gifts in service to others and in celebration of our Catholic faith. A much-loved tradition is our annual faith-based musical production, which brings together students from every grade through music, drama, storytelling, and teamwork. It is a joyful celebration of faith, talent, service, and community, and one of the highlights of the school year for students, families, and staff.

St. Mary's Elementary acknowledges that the land on which we gather, learn, work and play is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Ts'elxwéyeqw and Pelólxw Tribes of the Stó:lō peoples, and we value the warm relationships we have with the Indigenous families of our community.
