Religion:Grade six helps others understand the great sacrifice Jesus made for all of mankind by suffering on the cross. During Holy Week, we will perform a re-enactment of The Stations of the Cross. You will be learning prayers and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Art: Let your Imagination Soar! Experiencing art is a means to develop empathy for other’s perspectives and experiences. It engages and expands a person’s sense of identity and community. We will create many beautiful works of art in Grade Six.
Science: This year, we will be studying Newton’s Three Laws, the Solar System, Mixtures and Multi-cellular Organisms. Get ready for building and experiments. Making slime, building helmets, making Newton’s cradle
Math: In Grade Six, you will learn about mixed numbers, decimal numbers, order of operations, linear relations using line graphs, area and volume of shapes, data analysis, and theoretical probability.
French: With Mme Prost
Social Studies: Topics covered in the Grade Six year include: economic self-interest can be a significant cause of conflict, complex global problems require international cooperation, systems of Government vary in respect for human rights, media sources can both positively and negatively affect our understanding of issues, social justice.
English Language Arts: Novels, Novels, novels – we’re going to be reading a lot Big Ideas: exploring stories and other texts helps us understand ourselves and make connections, developing an understanding of how language works allows us to use it purposefully, language and text can be a source of creativity and joy, exploring and sharing multiple perspectives extends our thinking, questioning what we hear, read and view contributes to our ability to be educated and engaged, the Hero’s Journey There will be a focus on grammar, spelling, vocabulary, writing, poetry, and much more.
